Feldenkrais Method

Movement Education

The Feldenkrais Method® developes our ability to become aware of our movement and ourselves. Through this awareness we learn how to move more easily and to change habits of behavior and self-image. Feldenkrais is an easy-to-do, practical approach. There are two complementary ways to benefit from the Feldenkrais Method, Awareness Through Movement® and Functional Integration®.

In group classes of Awareness Through Movement the teacher leads students through easy to do and varied movements. There are thousands of Awareness Through Movement lessons, each one different in its focus and effect. They can be done by anyone, each to their own capability. Each person progresses from their own level and at their own rate. It is completely non-competitive.

In individual sessions of Functional Integration, the teacher communicates through gentle non-invasive touch. Functional Integration effects improvement in the functioning of the nervous, muscular and skeletal systems. Functional Integration is beneficial for infants, children and adults.

Benefits of the Feldenkrais Method

Both individual and group lessons can produce both immediate and long lasting results. People often experience improvement in posture and breathing, relief from pain, reduced tension, and enjoy new flexibility and ease of movement. People tell us that they feel better about their bodies and have a greater sense of well being, along with a wider range of thought, action and expression.

Some of the Conditions for which the Feldenkrais Method is particular helpful:

  • Children's movement difficulties, such as sports injuries, scoliosis, neurological conditions.
  • Back and neck pain.
  • Overuse injuries (RSI, carpal tunnel syndrome, tendinitis, etc).
  • Pain and disability after injury or surgery.
  • Arthritis.
  • Chronic pain that has not responded to other treatment.
  • Neurological Conditions (strokes, brain injury, multiple sclerosis, cerebral palsy).
  • Posture improvement.
